In 2026, Camp Thompson celebrates 100 years of life-changing summers, lifelong friendships and moments that shape who we become. For a century, our Y’s resident camp has been a place where confidence is built, curiosity is sparked and kids discover their potential—often for the very first time.
As we honor Camp Thompson’s past, we’re investing in its future. This year-long centennial campaign will support critical improvements, program sustainability and access for generations of campers still to come—so Camp Thompson can continue to inspire, challenge and welcome all for the next 100 years.
I loved learning archery, playing capture the flag, doing the polar bear dip in the creek, walking the mile on the path to fuller lake, bug juice! And late nights at the bonfire where we learned camp songs!
-Marie Shinskie Garvey, Camper 1984-1986

Former Camp Thompson counselor and program director Hunter “HB Goodie” Goodhart shares how his years at camp helped shape the path he’s on today. Serving on staff from 2014 to 2019 in roles ranging from counselor to CIT and LIIT director, Hunter says the lessons he learned at Camp Thompson—confidence, leadership, and believing in himself—changed the course of his life. Today, he works as a full-time camp director on Lake Wylie in South Carolina, a journey he credits directly to his time at Camp Thompson. Hear Hunter’s story and stay tuned for more memories and reflections as we celebrate 100 years of Camp Thompson.
Sergio started as a shy quiet camper, learning how to be independent and branch out to try new activities and meet new friends as a camper in the 2000’s. After many summers at camp, he went on to lead the Tower, Team Building Groups, Trips and Program Director teaching kids along the way to find themselves at camp through activities and sports. He could be found on the basketball court waiting for kids to join and play knock out or PIG. Today he works at Carlisle Construction Materials as a Product Specialist making connections with community partners and leading team meetings with skills first developed at camp and still growing today.
